Want to Send a Nude Photo to Your Honey? Here’s the Smart (and Safe) Way to Do t!

Make the most of your assets with beauty tips, digital tricks and safe sexting practices

Are You Really Going to Do This?
Before you strip down and smile for the camera, consider a few things first: Can you trust your partner? Are you ready to accept negative consequences, like the photos get leaked? Are you hesitant about being in the buff? “If you're genuinely uncomfortable posing naked, it's not going to feel good for you,” explains Lux Alptraum, editor of Fleshbot.com. “And anything that doesn't feel good to you is fundamentally un-hot.” But if the thought totally turns you on, then go for it!

fake a fab body

Guys love receiving nude pics because a) it’s a naked girl, duh and b) it’s a girl they know -- flaws and all. So while perky breasts and toned thighs are bonuses, they aren’t requirements for steaming up his screen. To make the most of what you’ve already got, go with a simple faux glow, says Lauren Cosenza, a Victoria’s Secret beauty expert. Mist on the brand’s Beach Sexy Flawless Airbrush Instant Body Spray to mask any minor imperfections, then dust a shimmer powder like their Beach Sexy Sun Dust Bronze Shimmer Brush on your collarbones and down the center of your legs for instant contouring and a slimming effect. Remember to keep your body long and extended, suggests Sam Greenspan, creator of 11points.com and author of 11 Points Guide to Hooking Up. “Scrunching and bending doesn't look good on anyone.”

rock a little bedhead
Get messy and sport slightly disheveled bombshell hair for a roll-in-the-hay look he’ll love. To create va-va-voom volume, Rebekah Forecast, a Sally Hershberger Downtown stylist who coifs Victoria’s Secret models for shoots, suggests applying dry shampoo at the roots for lots of lift and using a large 1 1/2" curling iron to create loose waves. Keep the barrel of the iron at a vertical angle and curl away from your face. If you need to add fullness to your tresses, consider extensions.

get your gadget on

Unless you’re going old school with Polaroid film and snail mail, you’ll want to download a photography application to capture your best side (and backside). Deanna Zandt, author of Share This!: How You Will Change the World with Social Networking, recommends Vignette if you have an Android or the popular Instagram app for iPhones. Both offer film effects, filters and a retro vintage vibe. (Others to consider: Camera+ and Procamera.) And for those who can’t resist a little retouching, there’s Adobe Photoshop Express. Word of warning: If the app is linked to any of your social media accounts, don’t pull an Anthony Weiner and accidentally post your au natural image to a network of friends and family!

go in for your close-up

“I can't believe how many photos you see online of women taking a sexy photo in the mirror, and there's a toddler wandering in the background,” laments Greenspan. To avoid ruining the mood with such mishaps, Greenspan suggests enlisting the help of someone to take the shot. But if your BFF just isn’t up for the job, try Joby’s GorillaMobile, a bendy tripod that can serve as a third hand. Also, use soft lighting, nix the flash and stick with a black-and-white setting for the most flattering image, suggests Greenspan. And above all, don’t try too hard. “Be yourself,” says Alptraum.“Don't try to mimic what you see in porn.”

practice safe sexting
Unfortunately, there isn’t a 100% fool-proof method for safely sending photos, cautions Zandt. There are encryption and security programs (like the Guardian Project, which is designed for activists in repressive regimes), explains Zandt, but they can be cumbersome from mobile devices. As for existing pics, consider a password-protected or private gallery app, such as the iPhone’s Private Photo Lite Free or PhotoVault for the Android, to limit exposure if your phone is lost or stolen. Also remember to delete any compromising images from online mobile mail galleries, which could potentially be hacked.

yikes! i’m naked on the internet

Scarlett Johannson, whose saucy snapshots were recently hacked and distributed online, shrugged off any scandal stigma, telling Vanity Fair “there’s nothing wrong” with a little birthday suit self-portraiture. After all, she said, she knows her “best angles.” That might be easy for a beautiful starlet to say, but what about the average Jane and her naughty bits? If your partner purposefully released the pictures, you may be able to seek legal action, explains Zandt. You might not be able to erase all digital traces. But Zandt hopes that, if exposed, “women everywhere would be able to own, and be proud of, their sexuality, and say, ‘This is who I am.’” Greenspan also points out the positive, saying “since you're confident enough to take nude photos, I'm guessing you receive far more compliments than insults.”
